THE BACKGROUND
Electricity supply is critical to the functionality of small and medium enterprise (SMEs) organizations in Nigeria and it is a known fact that companies with access to electricity tend to have higher productivity than those without.
Poor electricity supply in terms of duration and frequency of outages negatively affects the total factor productivity and labour productivity of manufacturing SMEs with a huge impact on small firms more than large ones, which are recent start-ups owned by the youth and women.
The erratic electric power supply from the national grid and the increasing price of fuel has made living unbearable for young people especially women who cannot cope with running a profitable small business especially time-sensitive small business operation that usually involves lightening, communication, and basic equipment.

AIM
Yowo Power project is to empower youth and women with mini off-grid energy for small and medium enterprise business development in urban and rural areas of North Central Nigeria (Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau States).
The project name is Yowo Power, which is from youth and women empowerment with solar electric power.

THE STRATEGY
The Yowo Power will supply solar off-grid energy to clusters of young people and women who belong to a cooperative group on liaising agreement with a payment plan and the cooperative acting as guarantor.
There is growing unemployment and underemployment of the youth who are struggling to set up SME businesses. The Yowo Power project will scale up our current training to have a critical mass that will be responsible for the installation and monitoring of complaints with payment plans for each youth cluster. Rural women will benefit from the Yowo Power Agribusiness package for irrigation, drying and procession of agricultural-based products.
These standalone renewable energy systems are better than generators that require pollution-prone fossil fuels and maintenance for their operation and in a long run are more efficient in promoting cluster business productivity and profitability.

The Yowo Power Shop is a solar energy design and installation that meets the needs of SME shops, salons, and kiosks for lighting systems and basic equipment like computers, electrical appliances, printers, and fans.
YOWO POWER FOR AGRIBUSINESS HUBS
The Yowo Power for Agribusiness hubs is mini-grid for agricultural energy support systems like solar submersible bore-hole and water reticulation systems for irrigation and dehydration of fruits and vegetables.
YOWO POWER FOR HOUSEHOLDS
The Yowo Power for households focuses on smart homes, with solar water heater, freezes, appliances and solar generators.

Description of Business Concept
The Yowo Power will supply solar off-grid energy to clusters of young people and women who belong to a cooperative group on liaising agreement with a payment plan and the cooperative acting as guarantor.
A monthly direct debit payment plan is designed for each package for a period of 6 to 12 months based on the power audit and cost of installations. The SMEs groups or associations will sign as guarantors with bank support to ensure compliance.
We have developed packages of Yowo Power for shops, agribusiness, and households and young people are being trained continuously on installation.
